Then you will want to attend the USU’s upcoming conference entitled Traumatic Brain Injury: The Silent Epidemic to be held Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 8:00-4:40 in the Eccles Conference Center. The conference is sponsored by the USU Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education and the Student Academy of Audiology. This is a multidisciplinary conference that is open to first responders (fire fighters, EMTs and police), veterans, healthcare providers, lawyers, athletic trainers, and TBI victims and to the public at large. Presenters come from throughout Utah.  Topics include the anatomy of a traumatic brain injury, TBI teams, impact of TBI on children and family, TBI in sports, TBI and veterans, effects of TBI on hearing and balance, TBI and first responders, TBI and speech language pathology, how to negotiate the medical system in order to receive needed services, and legal considerations for TBI victims.  In addition there will be panel discussions with healthcare professionals and with TBI victims.
